Pre-Production
Here are some examples of my pre-production work.

Character Design
Simple concepts of 2 alien rivals. When designing characters, I focus on the narrative. Each design is developed with the story’s setting and themes in mind to ensure the character feels authentic within their world. I use motifs and details to express personality and backstory, with written notes that help keep them consistent.

Thumbnails
For smaller animations, I keep thumbnails concise, focusing on clear action and timing. When working on more cinematic sequences, I take a more detailed approach, incorporating background elements, lighting, and shading to better visualize mood and atmosphere before moving further.

Environments
Designing environments involves technical accuracy and storytelling. I pay attention to perspective, lighting, and composition to create immersive environments that match the narrative. I often begin in black and white to establish value contrast, then add colour to evoke the desired tone.

Animatics
Animatics are the bridge between planning and animation. I begin by syncing thumbnail sketches to audio, refining timing and pacing. For larger projects, I expand this into a fully realized animatic, adding new frames, motion, and backgrounds. This is to better visualize rhythm, transitions, and emotional beats before final animation begins.

Blocking
In the blocking stage, my goal is to define the core poses, timing, camera positions and composition of each scene. By establishing these movements early, I make sure the animation flows naturally and communicates the intended story beats with clarity and impact.
